Information
    Description
After completion of this course, learners will be able to generally describe greenhouse gases in terms of what they are, how they impact climate, what their sources are, and how their emissions are tracked in the U.S.
    Who Should Attend
This is a foundational-level course intended for new hires within state, local, and tribal air agencies.
    Leaning Objectives
The course is comprised of two modules:

Module 1: Greenhouse Gases and Climate
After completion of this module, learners will be able to generally describe the types of greenhouse gases and their impact on climate.

Lesson 1: Why are Greenhouse Gases a Concern?
    Define the term “greenhouse gas.”
Explain why an overabundance of greenhouse gases is a concern.
    Describe the greenhouse effect.
Identify some of the impacts of climate change.
Lesson 2: Characteristics of the Most Common Greenhouse Gases
List the factors that affect the potency of greenhouse gases.
Identify four of the most common types of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
Generally describe the potency of methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases as compared with carbon dioxide.
Module 2: Greenhouse Gas Sources and Emissions

After completion of this module, learners will be able to generally describe the sources of greenhouse gas emissions and the EPA’s collection and reporting of emissions data for U.S. greenhouse gas sources.

Lesson 1: Sources of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Identify the sources of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases.
Generally describe the prevalence of methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases in the atmosphere today, as compared with carbon dioxide.
Lesson 2: U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data
Generally describe the Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks.
Generally describe the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program.
Compare the Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks with the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program.
